Programme of the congress is available here (last updated 25.02.2022).

Information for presenters

The congress will take place both on-site and online in parallel. However, this is not a hybrid conference, which means that not all parts of the on-site congress will be available to the people participating online. The online part of the conference will run on the Worksup platform.

We have sent to the registered participants access links to the congress on the Worksup platform. If you want to watch the online panels of our congress, then you have to enter Worksup through a link , choose the panel from the timetable you are interested in, click on it, and enjoy the show. Worksup platform is similar to TV broadcasting, the main difference with a TV being that you can also write questions to the presenters.

The platform enables you to:

  • follow the broadcast and see the event agenda panel on the right side of the screen;
  • ask questions through the Q&A button as well as upvote questions you find relevant. To submit a question please click on the “Q&A” button under the title Questions and Comments
  • connect with presenters or other participants through the “Participants” and “Conversations” buttons;
  • chat with organizers if you have questions or feedback regarding the event.

We encourage you to take initiative to discuss, chat, ask questions and be open to communication with other participants to make the congress „Juri Lotman’s Semiosphere“ experience more meaningful!

ONLINE IT help

In order to ensure that everything will go according to the program, we kindly ask everyone to pre-record their presentations. Note that this includes both participants who will be at the conference in person as well as those who will be participating virtually.

The recommended length of the recording is 20 minutes. This will leave 10 minutes for questions and discussion (thus all together we have allocated 30 minutes for each presenter in the panel).

Please upload your video recording by no later than 20th of February.

We ask everybody to read carefully the following information depending on the form of your participation.

On-site participation:

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, there is a possibility that your participation plans can change at the very last minute. This is why we highly recommend that everyone who has decided to join the congress on-site to have a backup option in the form of a pre-recorded video presentation. That way we can ensure your place in the congress program even if your travel plans will be interrupted. Another reason for this request is that the pre-recorded videos will be available for viewing in a password-protected environment for all the participants during the week of the congress. In this way, your presentation will be accessible also to those who are participating online and can not otherwise listen to the presentations of the on-site panels.

  • Pre-recording your presentation is fairly easy to do. To assist you in this process we have compiled detailed guidelines for recording your video presentation.
  • Please label your video “Surname_name” (the presenter’s name). If you are a presenter who has two videos to upload, then please also indicate the title of the presentation.
  • To upload your video, click on the link.

IMPORTANT: PRESENTATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 20th OF FEBRUARY

All the participants of the congress will have access to the virtual event platform Worksup that will serve as the online venue for the congress. In addition to the option to enter the platform from your own device at any given time, there will also be a possibility to listen to the online panels in separate rooms at the congress venues in Tallinn and Tartu, allocated for streaming the online program. The link to the Worksup platform as well as guidelines on how to navigate this environment will be sent to you before the start of the congress.

elp. However, in order to avoid any technical issues with your presentation, we kindly ask you to send us your slides beforehand. File formats compatible with the computers are PowerPoint ppt/pptx and Adobe pdf. Please label your slides “Surname_name”. If you are a presenter who has two slideshows to upload, then please also indicate the title of the presentation in the name. To upload your slides use this link.

SLIDES MUST BE UPLOADED BY 20th OF FEBRUARY!

By choosing this option you will have your slides uploaded to the computer in the right room of the congress and tested for you already before your presentation.

As an online presenter, you can choose whether you prefer to give your talk online in real time during the panel or present via pre-recorded video. However, even if you opt for the first choice, we still highly recommend having a backup video recording. In order to give your online talk, you can either use your own computer or if you prefer, we can provide you with the necessary equipment and a room to give your talk on-site as well. Just please in that case let us know about it in advance.

Online participation:

The virtual event platform Worksup will be the online venue for the congress. The platform will facilitate all the online panels. In addition to listening to the online presentations and asking questions, the Worksup platform will also facilitate an online culture program. Materials presented in the program will be available to the participants throughout the congress. The link to the Worksup platform as well as guidelines on how to navigate this environment will be sent to you before the start of the congress.

In the Worksup platform we will also transmit some parts of the on-site program: the streaming of keynote lectures, the opening of the congress, the anniversary ceremony, and some of the book presentations. In addition, online participants will have access to all the pre-recorded presentations which will also include presentations from on-site panels.

All online participants can choose whether they prefer to give their talk live during the panel or present via the pre-recorded video. However, even if you opt for the first choice, we still highly recommend having a backup option. In this way, we can ensure your place in the congress program in case of unexpected problems (e.g. technical problems such as bad internet connection, or being unable to participate due to health reasons, etc.) Pre-recorded presentations will also get a broader audience by being available for all participants during the congress week.

IMPORTANT: PRESENTATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 20th OF FEBRUARY

As an online presenter, we highly recommend pre-recording your presentation that will then be played during the panel for the audience. In case you would like to participate in the discussion we can arrange a Zoom link for you to join the panel and answer the questions. In case you still choose to make your presentation live through Zoom (you should first talk it through with the chair of your panel) then there is the risk that in case of technical problems we will not be able to ensure your participation in the panel, as we will have to follow the strict schedule of the program.

The Worksup platform has the option to upload photos of all the online presenters, which helps to enliven the whole digital environment. We would be grateful if you could upload your photo by using this link

Please label your photo “Surname_name”.
